Smart Ways to Live - Community disaster challenge

Smart Ways to Live is a winning 2018 GovHack entry that proposed the development of an interactive educational app that increases community resilience using a fun and innovative method.

The app, which is for children aged between 8-12, teaches disaster preparedness while providing real time data back to emergency services in relation to existing emergency supplies in homes e.g. food, water, medicines, first aid kits.

Smart Ways to Live won the Queensland Government’s community disaster challenge, which asked participants to develop ways to help communities to be better equipped to manage disasters.

The proposed game would use GPS data to create a model of the user’s physical environment, helping children learn how to appropriately respond to natural disasters.

The project focused on using data to build resilience and empowered communities through smart touch device gameplay.
