Amazing Science

Mash up one or more science datasets with other QLD Gov. datasets to inform the community by promoting science through data visualisation and storytelling.

Description

Queensland Government Open Data Portal provides a range of data sets, including Environmental and Natural Resources Sciences.

Mash up one or more science datasets with other Queensland government datasets to inform the community by promoting science through data visualisation and storytelling.   In particular, how Science Delivery benefits Queensland through one or more of the following:

  1. Information Discoverability and Delivery (visualisation, education and promotion)
  2. Community and Stakeholder Engagement (communication, multicultural and special needs)
  3. Community Disaster/Risk Awareness (preparedness and response)

Output(s)

The challenge may be presented via, but is not restricted to, one or more of the following delivery options:

  1. Application
  2. Website
  3. Visual Art [e.g. installation, video, sculpture/craft, photography, painting/sketch]
  4. Game(s) [single or multi-player]
  5. Musical piece

Challenges

  • Show and Tell: Communicate how research data are used to address local, national or global issues. E.g. climate change, environmental protection, extreme event forecasting, emerging technologies.
  • One for All: Create a tool to communicate one or more aspects of science to the community (including special needs, various age and ethnic demographics) E.g. different sensory or language explorations of science and technology.
  • Slick City: Use Government data to help smarten your city E.g. event alerts and re-routing traffic; risky swimming areas; wildlife watching in urban areas.
  • Neural Knowledge: Use machine learning or statistical modelling to predict and recognize patterns from historical data.
  • Visionary Voyager: Manipulate, elucidate, innovate and communicate any science story that you feel deserves to be shared.

Datasets

Our challenges encourage use of multiple, widely and openly available datasets as long as their licensing terms permit. To be eligible to win, GovHackers must include at least one DSITI science data set from below links, but are not limited to these.
