GovHack 2022 – Wrap up!
The annual GovHack hackathon took place from 19-21 August this year, with participation across Australia and New Zealand. In Queensland there were three physical events hosted in Fortitude Valley, St Lucia and the Sunshine Coast with the remaining participants attending virtually.
For GovHack 2022 the Queensland Government sponsored two State GovHack challenges. There were over 80 participants in Queensland with 12 unique projects submitted for the Queensland Government challenges.
The GovHack 2022 Queensland State Awards Night was held at The University of Queensland, St Lucia, on Tuesday 4 October 2022.
Well done to all who took part in this year’s event and congratulations to the successful teams!

Queensland’s award winners are:
Challenge 1: Environment: What can we do to ensure the sustainability of Queensland’s natural environment? What
Winner: WaterSaver by team “The Company”
The WaterSaver app uses digital water sensors to help track and monitor household water usage. It also connects to water storage facilities to provide usage advice to the user. The prototype aims to help reduce water waste.

The runner up project was Green Team by team “The Green Team”. Project Microfarming at Scale by team “Big Brain Club” received an honourable mention.
Challenge 2: Digital Skills: How can we help Queenslanders keep up with the increasing demand for digital skills in the workforce?
Winner: Connectiverse by team “Think Rhino”
The team Think Rhino proposed an app called Connectiverse which aims to connect people who have digital skills with others that have a need or interest in learning those skills. Connectiverse hopes to build a community where users can collaborate, share and teach each other the skills and knowledge required to meet the increasing need for digital skills.
