NextCrops by ARIVS
The winner of the 2019 Queensland Government Open API national GovHack Challenge team Arvis proposed a cloud-based Android app called NextCrops.
NextCrops would help Australian farmers make decisions on what crops to grow on their farm land using a range of open data sets and APIs including soil composition, rainfall, irrigation systems, climate and water monitoring.
The Data
NextCrops proposed the use of the following datasets:
- SILO climate API
- SALI land suitability API
- SALI land suitability API
- Groundwater and surface water monitoring Queensland web map service
- Water monitoring network - surface water quantity - Queensland
- SoE2017: Annual rainfall
The Benefits
The solution would provide farmers with information to better manage their land’s soil and natural resources. Helping them to decide what to grow to achieve a balance between water usage and land sustainability.
